Games Workshop sponsors several painting competitions across the world each year, called the Golden Demons.  In the United States, the competitions are held between March and June, in the four venues: Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Baltimore.  These competitions draw the most talented and well-known painters from across North America, and indeed the world, to vie for the coveted Golden Demon trophies.  First, second, and third place awards are given out for a variety of categories, with the number of entries ranging from a dozen up to hundreds of hopefuls, depending on the category.

I began attending Games Day in Baltimore in 1994, and participated in the Golden Demon competition unsuccessfully.  Two years later I returned, and since 1996 I have won twenty-two Golden Demon trophies at the Baltimore competition.  I do not get to go every year, but try to compete as often as I can.  In 2005 at Los Angeles, I was awarded the Slayer Sword, the "Best in Show" award given to one person at each Golden Demon competition.
