Daemonhunters Interrogator

Part II

The first thing I added was the model's head.  I needed a bald head, but did not want to use one of the ubiquitous space marine bald heads -- not only are they used everywhere, but there would be loads of unnecessary trimming and removal of the "tech bits" that they incorporate.  I found a likely candidate on the Zombie Regiment sprue, and all that it required was some slight trimming of the neck.  It even had a convenient forehead wart that would serve nicely as a metal stud.

To lengthen the body (as after removing the various bits the torso was looking too short and stocky), I knew I would be sculpting layers of robes out of Green Stuff (Kneadatite), but first needed the head at the correct height.  I used a 3 or 4mm length of plastic tubing in between the head and the body, and pinned the head in place.

Not feeling up to sculpting arms from scratch, I set about my Empire and Mordheim bits boxes.  I found a pair of suitably robed arms on the Empire cannon crew sprue, and pinned them to the body -- not mating flush with the shoulders, but higher so that I could lengthen the model.  I found an empty left hand on a Mordheim sprue that would accept the sword, and used a flintlock pistol-wielding hand for the right, to which I added a plastic Bolt Pistol.

The sword is made from Asmodai's sword, the hilt of a plastic Chainsword, and the crosspiece is from an old plastic Space Marine banner pole.  These were all pinned together through the hand, and Green Stuff was used to add the handle texture inside the hand, as well as fill in the gap between blade and crosspiece.

I began the first layer of upper robes at this point, filling in the shoulders and making the torso longer, trying to keep the same style of cloth folds as the metal base model.  I also added his "turtle neck" as a base layer for the face detailing and collar.  I also added the bit of apron or loincloth under his belt.

For bits like the loincloth, I would roll out a ball of Green Stuff between two sheets of wax paper (well... one sheet folded over) using the handle of one of my tools.  As long as the GS sets up for about 10 minutes after mixing it, it will not stick to the wax paper.  From this thin sheet, I cut out the basic shape I needed, and then attached it to the model where I would then sculpt in folds and details.

Folds were sculpted in with the small round end of the GW Sculpting Tool, and smoothed later with various-sized metal burnishers.  Detail like the border was simply cut in with an X-Acto blade, and touched up with a straight pin.

At this stage, I added an Inquisition icon to the right leg, and the large double eagle belt buckle, both of which were taken from various sigil sprues in the Inquisitor range of models.
