Origins

Painting Contest 2003

Each year there is a painting contest held at the Origins Gaming Convention in Columbus, Ohio.  So far, it is certainly no Golden Daemon-level of competition, but it has the benefit of not being restricted to a single company's line of miniatures; all manufacturers are welcome.

In 2002 I was not there for the competition but heard that they were awarding cash prizes to the winners!  For 2003, my travel plans definitely included entering this contest.  Later, though, the contest advertised "Great Product Prizes," but to our surprise the only prizes were trophies -- with no product, nor cash.  Lucky third-place winners received a blister from Reaper.

Unfortunately, all three of my entries came in first (I wanted a free mini...)!  Apparently, i-Kore was also sponsoring a concurrent painting contest at Origins, but only one person new about and entered that contest, winning all of the neat prizes from i-Kore.  Wish I had known -- but it was not advertised in any of the Origins literature.

It was fun to meet folks from the Mini-Painter list, and to see the few dozen entries that were there.  Hopefully in the future, Origins can get their act together with this painting contest to expand the number and quality of entries.
