The Lieutenant

            Nek’hbeth Valar is Anekh Sum’aht’s Lieutenant.  It was he who brought her legion to Exultan II, and presented her with the physical gifts of their master; her armor, her troops, her tanks, and all her machineries of war.

            Nek’hbeth is tall even by the standards of the Astartes, and lithe with well-defined, corded muscles.  He is bald, and his mouth has been replaced by some sort of heretical bionic speaker that amplifies his voice into cacophonous arias of agony and ecstasy.  Half a dozen daemonic fingers erupt from his jaw line, beckoning toward that grated mouth.  His armor is a mixture of ceramite and leather, accentuating his physical form, and adorned with leering gargoyles and wicked spikes.

            A weapons master, Valar does not favor any particular combination of tools to deal death.  He has been seen wielding power weapons of ancient design, bolt weapons, power gloves, and the sonic weaponry of the Noise Marines on different occasions.  It is thought that he grows tired of what weapons he chooses, having perfected most martial forms over the past millennia, and continually searches for new combinations to master.

            Records show that Valar was a member of the Emperor’s Children Legion during the time of the Horus Heresy, and Imperial Historians strongly believe that Ophelia’s lieutenant is the same man.  Why, after more than 10,000 years, he has not risen higher in the ranks of the Traitor Legion is a mystery, but it is rumored that the Lieutenant harbors a great jealousy for his commander, and rage at the elevation of a mortal above him.  Perhaps this rivalry could be exploited to aid in the downfall of this evil war host.
