I had this model about 90%
complete for almost a year now, and finally came across her again and
decided to finish her up. There are some really interesting
sculpts comings out of Privateer Press' Warmachine game; this is
Kommander Sorscha, Warcaster of Khador.
Since the frost-covered
background of Khador is heavily laden with the feel of Tsarist Russia, I
wanted to go for a Russian-esque military feel of dark greens with red
emblems, rather than bright red of the "official" color scheme.
The armor was painted with VMC 096 Russian Green, 093 Brown Violet, 094
Russian Uniform, 101 Green-Grey, 111 Medium Grey, and 076 Green Sky,
glazed with a mix of brown and dark green ink. The cloak was
painted similarly, but had VMC 150 S.S. Camo Black Brown added to the
Russian Green for deeper shading, and did not go all the way up to Green
Sky, but received the same glaze.
Some of the details of the
sculpt are very rough... The face does not have much detail, the flimsy
hammer kept breaking and was eventually replaced with a brass rod, the
hammer head details were rough (such as rivets placed right along the
edge of the hammer face, rather than centered, and spikes that look as
dangerous as lima beans), the Khador emblem on the cap looks
unfinished... And so on. However, there is really brilliant
sculpting going on at times as well; the armor is fabulous, as
well as its steam-engine power plant in the back, the left hand pose is
gorgeous and unique, the boots are stylishly cool. If Privateer
Press gets some consistency in their sculpting (yes, including items on
a single model, as well as across their range), they will be a force to
be reckoned with.
Soon it just might be time
to tackle one of the Khador Warjacks in the same style...
