Pilots of the Tau Air Caste are sometimes called on to support Tau ground forces.  The Tiger Shark Drone Carrier and Barracuda Air Superiority Fighter are common sights on the battlefields of the 41st millennium, and their smaller cousin, the Catfish, is seeing more widespread use by more progressive Shas'os.  Unfortunately, many Ethereals caution against the use of the expensive Catfish, protesting that its battlefield value is not worth production costs.  Still, its small size and maneuverability make it a favorite vehicle of Air Caste pilots, and is used extensively in the training of the Kor'la.

The Catfish is used primarily in training roles, and due to its speed and fuel-efficiency, it is often employed as a scouting and messenger vehicle.  It is not truly an atmospheric craft, but rather skims along the surface at a normal cruising altitude of 5 meters.  The trade-off for its speed is that the Catfish is not heavily armed, mounting only a single twin-linked plasma rifle system, and instead relies on its speed and early-warning sensor equipment to keep it out of trouble.
