Dark Age
Games has begun producing a game and miniature line based upon the artwork
of Brom. With sculptors like Werner Klocke and Steve Buddle on the
team, the miniatures they are putting out are absolutely stunning!
Many of the first run of sculpts are done in exactly the posing,
portrait-style of the original Brom artwork, while variants seem to have
more dynamic poses.
This is the
first Dark Age model I have attempted, a "Coil" trooper from the Forsaken
army, based on Brom's artwork of the same name. I utilized dark
non-metallic metals and a deep red to accentuate the dark feel of the model,
and the original artwork. I also attempted to faithfully recreate the
decorations on the chest plate that appear in the original piece.
The base is
meant to be a broken slab of concrete, giving way to some sort of bubbling
puddle of ooze (which unfortunately resembles some sort of vegetable
soup...). It was built of a carved chunk of thick styrene sheet, with
some brass rod inserted to represent rebar. The ooze was made by
puddling a pool of white glue into the open space, and then dripping super
glue on top of it, which creates a nice bubbled goo effect. After
painting, it was covered with a few layers of clear nail polish. The
light colors of the base hopefully help set off the darkness of the model
itself.
I am
pleased with the overall effect of the model, and hope to paint more of
these gorgeous figures in the future. |
