"Marshall Augustine and the Wraith-Creature"

The inspiration for this vignette came from a story found on pages 52-53 of Codex: Necrons.  There is very strong imagery of a Black Templars Marshall with a Necron Wraith wrapping around him on the broken cobblestones of the Triumphal Way in front of the Basilica of St. Capilene that I wanted to re-create.

While the Templar may not seem to be a Marshall in that he is not bedecked with flowing robes, tabards, books of Ecclesiarchy rhetoric, and other symbols of high office, the story made him seem to be a man of action, not weighed down by these useless and bulky icons and trappings.

The Wraith has been modified by sawing through individual links of his body with a jeweler's saw in order to achieve the correct twisting look I was after.  The end of his tail has been replaced with the nozzle of a Necron Gauss rifle, and a length of guitar string has been attached to wrap around our poor protagonist.  The end of the guitar string is capped with the original end of the Necron's tail.  I tried to get the effect of a retractable tail that can be deployed to ensnare the Wraith's victims.

I mounted the Wraith on a bit of plastic wall ruins to give the effect that it was floating above the ground, and added the ubiquitous Scarabs clawing around the blasted and rubble-strewn Triumphal Way.

The marine's power sword is done with an NMM-gold effect, the only indication of his high status within his order.  The blade was painted (perhaps not too successfully) as if bands of power were passing up toward the tip.

The second and third pictures, while seemingly identical, are focused on the Wraith and the Marine, respectively.
